Dragonflies at Disneyland

by May
(California)

I worked at Disneyland one summer in a Fantasyland food stand. This was 40 years ago before air conditioning. Our food stand was packed with customers 5 and 6 deep. The only time they cleared out was when they lit off the fireworks.

My favorite thing to do was on a break, I went backstage between Fantasyland and Frontierland. At that time there was some unused space. There was a small hill with a path that led up to the landing platform for Tinkerbell. Once you started up the path, you felt like you were in the country. I remember there being real dragonflies flitting about a small stream.

It was so strange to be in the middle of Disneyland at a very quiet, meadow like location. Sometimes, at night, on a break,I would climb up to the landing platform and have a fantastic view of Orange County lights at night.
