Sword Out of the Stone

by Melanie
(Bremerton, WA)

When our daughter, Kiran, was 7 or 8 we visited Disneyland and she had the joy of pulling the Sword out of the Stone in front of King Arthur's Carousel. She was thrilled as her picture was taken with Merlin and she was given a button and fancy scroll proclaiming her queen. She even had other guests recognize her around the park.

Our next trip was when she was 11 and her brother, Kalen, was 8. He was so excited to take his turn at trying to pull the sword from the stone. After being at the site a time or two, Dad was chosen to be the poor weak adult who couldn't pull out the sword, but our son was only an onlooker. We went back again and again.

Finally Merlin realized he wasn't going to evade this family and asked our son to give the sword a try. Kalen was so proud when he pulled out the sword; he had equaled his sister's fete and become king!
