ESPN Zone Buffalo Chicken Sandwich:
My Favorite

ESPN Zone, 1545 S Disneyland Dr., Anaheim, CA 92802, (714) 300-3776.

ESPN Zone Downtown Disney. I like the feel of ESPN Zone's large main dining room, with its sports memorabilia and zillions of TVs. And I'm not even a sports fan. To me it feels more like a casual steakhouse than just some rowdy sports bar.

Upstairs is all souped-up videogames like motorcycle racing where you sit on a real motorcycle, a skiing videogame where you're really on skis, and my favorite, a simulated rollercoaster (in case you haven't had enough at Disneyland). There's a bar up there but no dining. (Likewise, in the dining room there are no videogames.)

Plan on spending at least $25 for games here. I recommend signing up for the ESPN Zone MVP Club if you plan to play anything; you'll get bonus points and discounts. Why not.

The food is standard bar fare such as chicken wings, hamburgers, salads, and pizzas. Surprisingly, there is no children's menu but kids can probably find lots they like on the appetizer menu, such as chicken strips, pizza, and mini hamburgers.

For the full menu (no prices though), see the ESPN Zone website. Here's a sampling of their menu with approximate pricing:

Oh Yeah: ESPN Zone Buffalo Wings
  • Appetizers include Buffalo Wings ($11), a Sampler Platter of 6 items ($24), Chicken Tenders ($11) or Spinach and Artichoke Dip ($7).
  • Salads like Grilled Chicken Caesar or Grilled Steak salad cost about $14.
  • Sandwiches such as the Zone Cheeseburger or Buffalo Chicken Sandwich (my favorite!) are around $13. You can get a Chili Dog for $9.
  • Entrees are things like Grilled Salmon, BBQ Ribs & Chicken, or Shrimp Scampi, all about $16. They also offer a Top Sirloin Steak for $20.

It's loud-- your kids won't bother anyone here-- but your grandmother may not be able to hear the conversation. But if she's into the game, she'll be all set.
